Colin Edwards II , nicknamed the "Texas Tornado", is an American former professional motorcycle racer who retired half-way through the 2014 season, but continues in the sport as a factory test rider. He is a two-time World Superbike champion and competed in the MotoGP class from 2003 to 2014.

The Honda RC51 or VTR1000 SP-1 was a homologated version of the Castrol Honda World Superbike machine Colin Edwards rode to two championship titles in the 00s. From 2002 the model became the SP-2 with a more refined injection system and an extra 4bhp. Honda had been known for their V4 and inline four superbikes until this model, but Ducati’s racing dominance with Carl Fogarty and the 916 meant that needed to change.
