Alain Menu | 1997 | Renault Laguna
The Renault Laguna Touring Car is a touring car built by Renault. Based on the Laguna road car, it was built in a partnership with Formula 1 partner Williams.
Williams' fited a bare Laguna shell with production derived McPherson struts suspension at the front and trailing arms with torsion bars at the rear. Mounted far back and down in the chassis is a straight four engine based on a Renault production engine producing 285 bhp at the start of 1995 and ultimately well over 300 bhp by the end of the decade.
It debuted in the 1995 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) for the Williams Renault Dealer Racing team with the pilots Alain Menu and Will Hoy. The Laguna would have a successful run in the BTCC until 1999, with the team dominating the 1997 season.
The video game TOCA Touring Cars is based on this championship season.
